The palais Rihour has been protected as an historical building since 1875. Despite of that, a big fire, during the night of avril 23rd of the year 1916 destroyed the major part of the building. That was not the first time, but after this new destruction, it lefts only a small part : la salle du conclave. The archives of the city from the XIXth century and an importants part of the city books were destroyed in this disaster.

Le Palais Rihour was destroyed except the chapel and the stairs from the XVth century, and it lefts also some parts from the XIXth. In 2004, an exhibit of the painter Victor Vasarely take place there while Lille has been European Capital of Culture. That was the occasion to rebuilt the clocheton.
